- Plant seeds after the danger of spring frost has passed and the soil temperature is at least 60 degrees.
- Seedlings can be started indoors but grow best when started in the ground
- For continuous blooms plart new rows every 2-3 weeks in the spring.
- Plant in area that gets 6-8 hours of sunlight per day (full sun)
- Sunflowers prefer loose well drained soil that has compost and organic matter - roots get long and need space to grow down.
- Plant 1" deep - 6" apart - thin to 12" apart (for larger mammoth varieties 18"-24" apart works well)
- When small water about 4" from plants. When established water deeply and infrequently (once a week with several gallons of water per plant - more often is dry).
- Support tall varieties with staking and rope/plant tape
